Okay so a lot has been happening in the past few days. We took Theo to an urgent care in Denver Monday morning - his poor face had gotten horrible, crusty, gooey, and crazy red thru the weekend and then when he woke up Monday morning he has a cough, congestion and was slightly red. So we got it all looked at in one shot. It was tough, we knew we were paying out of pocket but it was all about your health at the moment and how to get you better. Well the urgent care wasn't much help. We left with little Dr. time and a prescription for an ear infection - i had no idea you even had one. Other then the symptoms i mentioned, you were happy, smiley, and really your normal self. So we started the meds Monday afternoon and hoped it cleared everything up. The doctor really had no answers about the rash and literally said he hoped it would clear up with the prescription. (Glad we paid so much money for such an incredible answer, huh?!?!)
Well to skip forward a bit, i noticed the rash spreading more and getting worse on your face yesterday so i called back to the urgent care and once again got little help. So that led me to call the Pediatrician we wanted to send you boys to once our new insurance went thru, and ask to be a self paying client till our insurance went thru ... i know, i know i should have done that in the BEGINNING. UGH! still kicking myself for that one. i didn't think they'd let me and didn't even try - live and learn i suppose.
They got us in first thing this morning - it was quit refreshing actually. So very helpful on the phone, a great office and receptionists were sweet. The doctor was the best i've had yet!! I mean I loved our Peds office in Kazoo and would never say a bad thing about them (and recommend them to anyone still in the Kalamazoo area - check 'em out
Pediatric PC of Portage) but this lady was polite, helpful and educated me without making me feel stupid. She took her time, made sure she had her facts, was so good with Theo, and explained everything throughly.
We now know you have a very bad case of eczema. It got real bad this time, and because it's so itchy it got infected a bit (hence the real redness of it during the day). It's spread to other parts of your body - calves, arms, hands, a bit on your tummy, so she gave us some heavy prescription cream to try on it for a week or so to really tackle it and get it healed up. We'll use this after bath and first thing in the mornings. Then for your poor, sweet face we bought hydrocortizone cream and can use that at the same times, and then again in the middle of day we'll apply some neosporin ointment to help heal the skin a bit. We also are a non-fragrance family. We have to use soaps and lotions with out smells or all natural. So Dove and aquaphor lotion it is. So after we apply the heavy creams we then have to apply the lotion over it ... she said, "Don't be sparing ... use it. For the next few weeks and months your little boy will be quit slippery!" haha Whatever helps ya little boy!! I'll do! So we have quit the cream and lotion schedule for you!! Plus we have a new prescription that you'll take three times daily for seven days. (oh and she checked the ears again - no infection so we stopped the old amoxicillin meds)
So today begins the first day of new soaps, and new schedules! Lets get this skin under control again ... She did reassure me that your sweet face will be normal again, but it may take a little time and also that it can have flair ups like this again - out of no where. But at least we know what to do! Praise the Lord for answered prayers and helpful doctors!! So happy to have found our new doctors (
